Blog Post 2 Module 18

-In the first video, it seemed as though the teacher allowed the students to conduct their own studies of the material in groups. After going through the material on their own, the teacher brought the students back together for a discussion. The direction of the discussion was controlled by the teacher. This was to balance the student-centered study time. In the second video, just about the entire lesson was controlled by the teacher. She directed the students where to go and asked all of the questions in the lesson.

-In both classes, the discussions were led by the teachers. In the discussion, students in both classrooms probably felt the same extrinsic motivation to participate. The difference though lies in the learning that is going on. In the first video, students must be intrinsically motivated to get through the material in time because the teacher wasn't going to move on until everything was discussed. In the second video, it was still more extrinsic motivation as the teacher was leading and asking the questions. This probably didn't allow for as much material to be learned because students could just sit and avoid being called on.
