-In performance assessments, how can a teacher provide concrete examples of why they believe a student earned the grade that they did when the assessment is based mostly on the teacher's opinion of how the student is progressing?
-A formal formative assessment would be a scheduled test where the teacher and child see the results. These would be used by both parties to formulate a plan of action for helping the student. An informal formative assessment would be a classroom discussion where the teachers and students see what the students understand. This can help students with preparing for a test and can show the teacher how to review for a test. A formal summative assessment would be a scheduled final or midterm test. The information gathered from this would help the teacher plan their future instructions of the material and give the student a guide for what he or she needs to learn. An informal summative assessment would be an ending discussion for the day. This would be used by students to help them know what to study more during their homework times at home. This would also help the teacher prepare for the next day of instruction.
-You can't tell whether an assessment is formative or summative just by looking at it. This is because the difference is how the assessment is applied after it is given and the results are shown. You must see whether the assessment is used for determining student progress or for the effectiveness of teacher instruction before you can decide whether it is formative or summative.
