Module 10 post 1

-One question I had after reading this chapter is if someone doesn't have the abilities to self regulate, are they able to self-observe, self-jude, or self-evaluate themselves? If someone cannot self regulate then how do they learn on their own and be self independent?

- A model is an individual whose behavior is being oberved, or performs a behavior that can be imitated by others. There are two different types of models. There are live models, who are individuals who are observed directly, this can be the observer's friends, parents, siblings, fellow students, or teachers. The other types of models are symbolic models, which are individuals who do not live within the same environment as the observer, can be observed through various media such as movies, books, and tv. Models support observational learning. When models do something, the viewer observes what the model is doing and repeats their actions. Then the viewer keeps repeating what the model did and that is how one learns from a model. There are four factors that can influence someone to want to observe their model they are, gender-appropriateness, high status, competence, and relevance.

-Both live and symbolic models have impacted my life significantly. If I had to choose I would say that live models have impacted my learning, most specifically my family, peers, and my teachers. I am constantly surronded by live models that I observe on a dialy basis. Yes, I have had many symbolic models, but people that I have relationships with and aspire to be are more live models. I would say that I have learned a lot of things from my mom being my model. She is relevant to me because most of the behaviors she portrays are things that I am interested in. My mom is also competent because everything she does or tries to teach she has prior knowledge about. My mom in my eyes is high status because she is my parent and has more authority then me in my family. She is also gender-appropriate because she is the same gender as me, so I am more likely to gravitate towards her behaviors and mannerisms then my dad. For example, my mom has taught me how to dress like a girl, behave appropriately like a girl, put on makeup, ect... things that my dad would not teach me because he does not do these tasks.
