List three questions you have about the midterm material (either directly from the list I gave you or describe your own questions/confusions). Respond to others' questions in the comments.
1. I have trouble keeping Piaget & Vygotsky separate along with their theories. I need strategies.
2. The different concepts and names are blurring together in my head.
3. How long does it take for neurons to disconnect?
1. The main difference between Piaget and Vygotsky is that Piaget believes that development happens before learning and Vygotsky believes learning needs to happen in order for a child to develop. I guess a good way in remembering that is to look at the first letter. When talking about Piaget's theory, Piaget comes before Vygotsky in the alphabet and development also comes before learning. I hope this makes sense!
ReplyDelete3. I don't think there is a specific time for neurons to "disconnect." When you are using the same synaptic connection over and over again, you are better insulting the myelin sheath (strengthening it). When you do not use the connections for an extensive period of time, this is where the brain "prunes" the connections out and keeps the ones that are commonly used. I hope this helps and I explained it clearly for you.
