·         Discuss one question or confusion that you had about the material.
o   I understood the material just fine. I was surprised by how much detail they were able to go into.
·         When are INTRINSIC forms of motivation most beneficial or appropriate, compared to extrinsic forms? What do they offer?
o   The intrinsic form of motivation is most beneficial or appropriate when it is about something someone wants to do as a career or for something they will be working with for a while. Ideally, intrinsic motivation would be the primary motivation so everyone would love what they are learning.
o   Intrinsic motivation offers the chance that the person will remember what they learned after the test because they like the topic. The person is excited to learn the information.
o   Extrinsic motivation offers the chance that the person will do something even though they may not want to do it, because they will get a reward.
o   If a person does well for either motivation, their self-esteem level will rise.
·         Even though intrinsic motivation describes something internal, it's something that CAN be affected by external factors, like teachers. Discuss some specific ways that you can increase intrinsic forms of motivation for your students. (For example, are you attributing success/failure to factors they can control or factors that are inherent?)
o   If a person is told that they are good at something (extrinsic), they will want to do it to impress others to attain that same reward (extrinsic)…eventually they will probably do the task because they like to do it (intrinsic).
o   I can tell my students when they are doing well. I can look at what they like to do to tell them about something else they should try. I will give them situations that they can control and that they can feel like they can achieve in.

  1. I was equally surprised at how much detail they were able to offer, especially on intrinsic motivation. I don't understand how they measure intrinsic motivation.
