For discovery learning I would have my class do a project where they have to use a combination of different art mediums. This would give them a chance to explore the different mediums and see which ones work best for them. It would also give them a chance to find out which ones they like best. The project itself would be structured but the way they accomplish the project would solely be up to them. The learning objective would be creativity and this method promotes that by not limiting them on their resources.

Module 20 Post 2
This may not go with my content area but I thought the information processing theory was the most valuable. It is important for teachers to encode the information in their long- term memory for it to benefit them in the future. The teaching method I would most likely use in my classroom is discovery learning. Information processing and discovery are very different. Information processing has to do with encoding information in order to retrieve it their long term memory and discovery learning is about exploring the content through hands on activities.

I agree with you on that information processing theory is the most valuable in most classrooms. Like you, that wouldn't really go with content area either. In physical education I would use discovery learning just like you. I don't know what type of classroom you are in, but in PE class a lot of the things that students learn are skills and not just pure information so that's why discover learning would be best. I would act as a guide for the students after I show a skill to learn.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea with using discovery learning in the classroom and especially in an art classroom. I think that when students aren't given the opportunity to explore art it makes them more interested in the subject. I know that when I was in art class and I was given projects that did not give me any opportunity to explore my own creativity it turned me off from wanting to do it
