Module 18 Post 1

When reading about classroom rules and policies, I was wondering about the possible rules I should have for my future art classroom.

I think this statement is true because in order to be a teacher, you need to know how to deal with problems in the classroom. It is easy for teachers to have control because we are ready. But some students may not be ready when given control. They may have way too much fun the control and things could get out of hand. But if we plan for mistakes or things not going the way they should, then we can make it into a learning experience. First of all they can learn a lot by their mistakes and from their peers. Secondly, it will give them a chance to step into their teacher's shoes. They will see what it's like and maybe be appreciative towards their teacher and gain more respect for them as well.

  1. I am not sure if this is helpful in answering your question... I think for future teaching in the classroom, it is most important to establish discipline rules for the students to follow. This helps set the tone of the classroom and the students know what you expect from them and how to behave. Depending on what art materials you use, I think it is important to explain how the students should use these materials, where they are to be stored/located and what they are NOT allowed to use. This helps create guidelines for students to follow and how they should appropriately use these materials. I remember all throughout school, students would misuse the art materials to be “funny.” I think establishing rules and expectations for students to follow are critical for the success of the classroom. These are just some ideas for your future teaching, but I hope it helps!
