Blog Post 2 (Activity)

Reflect on Module 15 and discuss why or why not Terry's method of motivation is effective. (You can also discuss whether using extrinsic forms of motivation would be beneficial in your classroom, while assuming YOUR motivators will not be fear and pain!)

I do not think that Terry’s method of motivation is effective whatsoever because the people in the office would be working in fear. I do not think that instilling fear into your students or workers is a good way to motivate them. I know that whenever I am under pressure or have a teacher that I am scared of closes me off from learning. When I have a teacher who does not instill fear in me but gives me positive feedback I learn better because I am more likely to ask questions or share my opinions in the class. In my classroom I will make sure that my students understand the rules of the classroom but also feel comfortable enough to ask questions if they are confused or share their feelings on the subject we are discussing.

  1. This goes back to the comfort level you addressed in your earlier post. You need comfort to be able to communicate and express your ideas, which is essential to learning.... Particularly in dance, I understand why you feel that openness, comfort, and exploration are so important.

Think about why too many rewards, or rewards EVERY day (regardless of performance) might hurt learning. Also, why can punishments or negative feedback be helpful if the student is doing something 'wrong', according to the discipline you're trying to teach them?
