-One confusion I had was the difference between inductive and deductive reasoning. I think I may have an understanding of it now after re-reading it but it still seems a little fuzzy. I had to learn about this last year in an introductory psychology class as well and it was difficult for me then too.
-In PE one could use metacognitive knowledge and theory of mind to teach different strategies for certain sports and skills. The use of metacognitive knowledge would be utilized by the students to recognize their own skills and weaknesses so that they could know what skills or strategies to apply in the games they play to achieve the best results. Theory of mind would come in when they have to work together as a team to accomplish a certain task. Because of each individual doing his or her own metacognition they have to take into account other viewpoints on how to achieve their goal.
-I feel that metacognition is more relevant to my content are of PE because in games and sports one must always be seeing the opponents and taking into account their skill level as well as your own. Critical thinking is a part of this process as you must think of a solution of how to accomplish your goal given the situation, but metacognition is more relevant here because you must know how to judge your own skills and abilities to be able to use them effectively against another individual.
Deductive reasoning is reasoning which invovles moving from general to specifics by working through a reasonsed statement. Inductive reasoning takes specific observations and tries to expand them into a more general theory. An example of inductive reasonsing is observing a cow with spots. With this observation one would reason that all cows have spots, which is not true.Deductive reasoning is when someone thinks of a theory and then tests and researches until they come up with a conclusion that completely makes sense. This is more indepth research until you find the correct answer, where inductive reasoning is kind of the opposite.
