Blog Post 1 Module 23

-Something that surprised me was the five hypotheses on the relationship between intelligence and creativity. Previously before this chapter I had always thought of the two as separate disciplines that weren't really that related. After reading this chapter though, I have been reconsidering my thoughts and position on the subject matter.

-Creativity is a form of higher thinking because you are coming up with new strategies to accomplish a task or solve a problem. You are able to take the knowledge that you have been given and apply it to novel situations that you shouldn't normally be able to. Creativity in PE would be an extension of bodily-kinesthetic intelligence. Students may be exceptionally good at manipulating objects such as balls or bats. Or another way to see creativity would be if they were able to accomplish a task or skill that isn't developmentally appropriate all by themselves. One such example would be if an elementary school-age child were to watch a video of someone doing freerunning, which is essentially urban acrobatics over and around obstacles, and then the child goes out and does those same tricks during a game of tag. Although that is an extreme example, it goes to show that the child is obviously creatively gifted in that realm of bodily control. A way to encourage and assess creativity in PE would be by giving such students more difficult tasks to perform and see how they do with those tasks.
