Vygotsky/Grouping Blog Prompt2

The Breakfast Club is one of those movies that have been on my To Watch list for a few years now and I still haven’t gotten around to it yet. However, I know a brief summary of the plot. This is a movie about a group of very different students put together and in the end they get to know each other and learn that they aren’t quite as different as they originally thought. I think Vygotsky would approve of a very diverse grouping. I think it can promote development a lot, which goes with his Zone of Proximal Development. Diversity can show someone that there is a different way of thinking about something or seeing something. There isn’t just one way, and interacting with someone who is different that you can really open up your eyes to new things. When interacting with someone who is very similar, it’s possible you won’t learn as much, since you probably know similar topics. Integrating diversity is so effective, whether it is someone of a different culture or just someone older, I really think it is all important. Vygotsky would probably say to involve a more diverse learning environment in the classroom and watch the development hot air balloon skyrocket.
