Piaget's different developmental stages are sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational, and formal operational.
VIDEO RESPONSE:
The little boy appears to be in pre-operational, although he shows logic ("a feather can't break a glass!") usually demonstrated in concrete operationl. The girl is in formal operational stage, obviously knows a feather cannot break a glass, but has the deduction skills to be given point a and follow the directions to point b, disregarding her logic in order to answer the correction correctly.
I think you're right that the girl appears to reject her past experience with feather to use logic, thinking hypothetically.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know the boy is in preoperational? How do you know he is not in concrete operational if he is showing some signs of that thinking? He IS, after all, able to represent the situation in his mind without it being physically in front of him.
