Module 21/7 post 2
I think Vygotski would recommend grouping with variation in age, ethnicity, socio- economic status, and skill level because that way the students are always learning from each other and their ZPD will grow. I think Piaget would like the idea of grouping students with different ethnicities and socio- economic status but not by age. He would believe that since students of different ages are on different developmental levels, then it would be hard to come up with a lesson that would be beneficial for everyone. But if they were relatively the same age, then they could relate to each other because they are going through the same developmental process. They would be able to learn from their differences also. Meeting other students of different backgrounds could help broaden their mind and conceptions about that particular cultural background. They will learn how to see things and values differently such as family, friends, food, and religion.
