If I were to teach students about the digestive system in the body, I would start with a visual of the human body. The models they use in anatomy would work best since you can remove parts that don’t have to do with what you are trying to teach, so the students would focus in on exactly what they needed to know. This leads to less distraction and a higher rate of attention. Also, these models are very hands on, and when you see and touch something, you remember it better. I would explain the system after the students have examined the models, so they have a brief idea of what parts look like and can visualize. Afterwards, they would be able to look at the models again, with the new knowledge so they have all the information they need to ask questions to help make connections. Being able to visualize the information and hearing it and being able to hold objects, create different paths in the brain. Students will remember holding the stomach model and have an easier time retaining the information they were taught because of it.
Your digestive lesson sounds great! I like that you thought about attention too!
